On June 9, a list of top universities in the world was published according to one of the most respected and best-known in the academic community global QS World University Rankings 2021.

The flagship Altai State University ranked 571-580 among top universities in the world and entered the TOP-20 of the leading universities in Russia. In total, the ranking was able to include 1002 top universities in the world, including 28 Russian universities.

It is the third time when AltSU is in the world list of this ranking; for the first time it happened in 2011 with the position of 700+, the second time was in 2018 with the position of 601-650. Thus, this year the university showed the best performance for all years. It should be noted that competition in the ranking is increasing every year: if in 2018, 1233 universities met the threshold requirements and were allowed to evaluation, then this year it is already 1604 universities.

AltSU appeared in the ranking, primarily, due to systematic work in the direction of developing international cooperation and internationalizing of its educational programs. By the number of foreign students, AltSU is included in the TOP 400 universities in the world and occupies 367 line of the ranking. The university implements 33 joint educational programs with foreign universities and about 1,500 foreign students get education here.

Entering the QS World University Ranking list is also explained by a significant increase in AltSU scientific performance in recent years. Over the past 5 years, university scientists published 9 articles in the TOP 3 scientific journals of the planet: 4 articles in Nature, 3 in Science, 2 in Science Advances. This significantly increased the international citation of the university research and recognition of the university in the academic community. As a result, the academic reputation of AltSU for the period 2018-2020 has doubled.

The development strategy of Altai State University as a flagship university in Russia and the region is focused on qualitative changes, and entering the QS World University Rankings 2021 reflects a significant increase in AltSU's competitiveness at the global level.

AltSU is currently represented in 8 global university rankings, including THE Impact Rankings 2020.
