On the occasion of the National Day of the People's Republic of China celebration: AltSU presented original methods of teaching Chinese

On October 1, Altai State University held a methodological seminar "Topical Issues of Teaching Chinese in Higher and Secondary Schools", timed to the main public holiday of China - the National Day of the People's Republic of China.

The Department of Oriental Studies of the Institute of History and International Relations of Altai State University, organizing a seminar on the topic of teaching the Chinese language for the first time, invited teachers and specialists who already have certain experience in this field to participate in the event. Thus, among the speakers of the seminar, in addition to scientists from the flagship university of Altai Krai, there were representatives of the Confucius Institute of Novosibirsk State University, Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan State University, Qiuntai Pedagogical Institute (PRC), Altai State Pedagogical University, Barnaul Language Center "Mandarin" and gymnasiums and lyceums of Barnaul and Aleisk.

“The Department of Oriental Studies of the Institute of History and International Relations of Altai State University has been implementing bachelor's and master's programs in the direction of training “Foreign Regional Studies” for more than twenty years, aimed at training specialists in the field of teaching the Chinese language. During this period, our department has already formed a group of teachers - leading specialists of the region, who purposefully and methodically work in this direction, and have prepared more than one generation of specialists with knowledge of the Chinese language”, - says Yulia Lysenko, Head of the Department of Oriental Studies of the Institute of History and International Relations of Altai State University. “In recent years, there has been a trend towards the widespread study of the Chinese language. A number of institutes in the region, linguistic centers and even schools offer a variety of Chinese language programs. The most interesting and original methods of teaching the language were presented during our seminar".

Within the framework of the event, the winners of the drawing competition "Chinese Culture: Yesterday and Today", organized by the Department of Oriental Studies of the Institute of International Relations of Altai State University for the National Day of the People's Republic of China among schoolchildren and students of Altai Krai, were also announced.

“Today, Altai State University can be called the center of teaching the Chinese language in the region, where a group of highly professional linguistic teachers has been formed. Having extensive experience in this field, we intend to consolidate teachers of the Chinese language from all over the region at the AltSU platform, which will allow us in the future not only to coordinate joint work, but also to create distance programs, educational and methodological developments, and publish manuals”, said Yulia Lysenko.

Conducting this methodological seminar positions the role of Altai State University in achieving SDG, contributing to the development of education, building peace-loving societies, cross-cultural interaction and peaceful dialogue on the development of societies, territories, countries.

The participants of the event supported the initiative of the Department of Oriental Studies of the Institute of International Relations of Altai State University to hold an annual seminar on the teaching of the Chinese language in higher and secondary schools. The next one is also planned to be organized during the celebration of the National Day of the People’s Republic of China - October 1, 2021.
