The opening of the VI Altai International Model UN took place at Altai State University

29 January 2021 Institute of History and International Relations

If a university has its own Model UN, then this university is worthy of attention! On January 28, the opening ceremony of the VI Altai International Model UN was held at Altai State University. This year, despite the difficulties associated with the pandemic, the model still takes place in a combined format: delegates can participate in meetings of both the General Assembly and the Security Council, both online and offline.

The Altai Model UN has been a tradition for 6 years, supported by the Department of General History and International Relations of Altai State University. As this is the only place in Altai that provides professional training of specialists in international affairs.

This year, the organizers of the model are: Altai State University, Department of Educational and Extracurricular Activities, Institute of History and International Relations, Department of General History and International Relations, Altai School of Political Studies.

The participants were greeted by:

Yuri Chernyshov, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Head of the Department of General History and International Relations of Altai State University, Director of the Altai School of Political Studies;

Denis Korolev, attaché of the Russian Foreign Ministry's office in Barnaul;

Mikhail Domukhovsky, Deputy Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development, Altai State University;

Ivan Nazarov, Director of the Institute of History and International Relations;

Evgeniya Ufimskaya, Head of the Business Incubation Center, Altai Small and Medium Business Development Fund;

Nina Malysheva, Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Altai State University Olympiad on International Relations and Oriental Studies.

Opening the work of the model, Professor Yu. Chernyshov noted that this role-playing diplomats began at the UN in 1953, and since then it has spread throughout the world. This play was first held at MGIMO in 1990, and at Altai State University in December, 2015. Now more than 20 Russian universities already have this tradition. Moreover, we can say that this is a particular feature: if some university has its own Model UN, then, most likely, it is a mature university, which is an interesting place to study, which has creative teachers and students who know foreign languages and understand the current international situation. D. Korolev, M.Domukhovsky, and other speakers also noted the importance of this tradition and wished the participants fruitful work.

After the greetings, the model participants - students from Altai State University, Kazan Federal University, Tomsk National Research University, and high school students - approved the new Secretary General of Model UN in the position of the new Secretary General of Model UN using the UN acclamation procedure. Alexey Savoskin, a Master's degree student of the Department of General History and International Relations of Altai State University, became General Secretary, who, together with the organizing committee, did a lot to make Model UN - 2021 take place.

Then the discussion began on the main topic - "Achievements in the field of informatization and telecommunications in the context of international security." It should be noted that the competition in the positions of countries has become no less intense there than it really happens in the United Nations.
