Altai State University hosted a meeting of the Association of Asian Universities

On November 17, a meeting of the Association of Asian Universities was held online at the flagship Altai State University, in which more than 70 participants from 60 universities of Russia and Central Asia took part.

The meeting was moderated by President of the Association of Asian Universities (AAU), Rector of the Kyrgyz National University named after Zh. Balasagyn Kanat Sadykov and Vice-President of AAU, President of Altai State University, Head of REC “The Greater Altai” Sergei Zemlyukov.

At the beginning of the meeting, Pavel Shevtsov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. He noted that “more than 167 thousand students from Central Asia study at Russian universities in the basic educational programs of higher education. Rossotrudnichestvo keeps this region in the focus of its attention. The Association of Asian Universities has shown itself an effective instrument of inter-university cooperation with the traditional partners of the Russian Federation - the states of Central Asia!"

At the meeting, the current issues of the organizational, scientific and educational activities of the AAU in 2021 were considered and the prospects for work for the next year were outlined.

AAU President K.Zh. Sadykov reported on the interim results of the Association's work for 2020-2021 and the implementation of the AAU work plan. Rector of the Russian-Tajik Slavic University Khojazoda Tokhir Abdullo and Vice-Rector of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University Salavat Usmanov commented and assessed the work of the AAU.

Sergey Zemlyukov made a presentation on the work of REC "The Greater Altai" and the results of the complex project "Turkic world of the Greater Altai: unity and diversity in history and modernity" as a network scientific and educational project of the Association of Asian Universities.

“The experience of the Association of Asian Universities has suggested the necessity to move from episodic events to permanent projects. The scientific and educational center of Turkic and Altaic studies "The Greater Altai" became such a project. Today the center carries out activities in three areas - educational, scientific and informational,” Sergey Zemlyukov presented the concept of the center.

The Vice-President of the AAU spoke in detail about the three areas of the center's activities and the results of work for 2021.

Linar Latypov, Adviser to the Rector's Office for International Affairs of Kazan Federal University and Gulnar Merzadinova, Vice-Rector of L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University on science, commercialization and internationalization supported the development of scientific and educational activities of the AAU in Central Asia and inter-university cooperation within the framework of the Association.

Evgenia Zhdanova, First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Altai State University, reported on new opportunities and experience in initiating and implementing network educational programs within the framework of the Association of Asian Universities and REC “The Greater Altai”.

Roman Raikin, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development of Altai State University, reported on the work on the implementation of the decisions of the IV Congress of the Association of Asian Universities and the expediency of giving the universities that are not active in the work of the Association the status of observers.

In the final part of the meeting, the topic and organizational plan for holding the V Congress of the Association of Asian Universities in 2022 was discussed. A general decision of the participants in the meeting-delegates of the AAU was made to hold the V Congress of the Association in September 2022 at the platform of Altai State University.
