On May 16, the 21st International Scientific and Practical Conference "Problems of Botany of Southern Siberia and Mongolia" began its work on the basis of the South Siberian Botanical Garden. More than 40 scientists are discussing here topical botanical research, the possibility of their approbation and practical application.

The conference is held online. Leading specialists from institutes and universities of Barnaul, Novosibirsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Apatity, Kirov, Tyumen and other cities, as well as Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia are taking part in it.

The conference will last for two days. The work is divided into five sections: “The role of botanical gardens in the study and conservation of plant biodiversity. Plant Protection”, “Systematics of individual taxa. Morphology and biology of individual species”, “Molecular genetic methods of plant research and chemosystematics”, “Study of the vegetation cover of Russia. Flora of Altai, Southern Siberia, Mongolia and adjacent territories. Geobotany and resource science”, “Plant ecology and phytoindication.”

“The conference takes place every year, it brings together scientists from different parts of the country and neighboring countries to Barnaul. This is a very important platform for the exchange of developments and research findings. Specialists meet, share their experience, contacts, many working groups have been created within the framework of the conference, which have been operating for a long time. This is a great practical significance of the conference. The event is held entirely online for the first time. Last year, we held two face-to-face conferences at once, the latter took place not so long ago, in the fall. About 80 participants came to us,” said Alena Shibanova, a researcher at the South Siberian Botanical Garden, the executive secretary of the conference.

Based on the results of the conference, articles are published in the electronic periodical "Problems of Botany of Southern Siberia and Mongolia", the international standard index of periodicals e-ISSN. All articles will be indexed in the scientometric database of the RSCI (5-year impact factor of the RSCI for 2020 is 0.111) and EBS AltSU (elibrary.asu.ru). Articles published in the collection are assigned DOI.
