The Russian-Kazakhstan archaeological expedition "The Greater Altai: Turkic heritage, Kalmakkyrgan-2022" worked in mid-July in the East Kazakhstan and Pavlodar regions of Kazakhstan. As part of the "Turkic World of the Greater Altai" project, the expedition aimed to find previously unknown objects of the Turkic era, as well as to conduct a 3D survey of Turkic artifacts previously found in East Kazakhstan.

For 10 days of the expedition, scientists from Altai State University, the Institute of Archeology named after. A. Kh. Margulan of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Toraigyrov University covered more than two thousand kilometers and explored various objects of the pre-Turkic and Turkic times in the Kazakh Altai (this is how the regions of Eastern Kazakhstan bordering Altai Krai are called).

The expedition included scientists from Altai State University: the expedition leader, an expert of the REC of Altaic and Turkic studies "The Greater Altai", professor of Altai State University Sergey Grushin, Director of the Center for Information Technologies of the Altai State Agrarian University Sergey Bondarenko, director of the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography of Altai State University Yaroslav Frolov, a laboratory assistant of the REC of Altaic and Turkic studies "The Greater Altai" Valeria Alekseeva, a scientific secretary of the Institute of Archeology named after A.I. Expedition leader from the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor of Toraigyrov University Viktor Merz:

– The expedition showed how important it is to work together and take a fresh look at these ancient monuments, promote them, study and preserve them. This is our main task today.

3D models of the artifacts photographed during the expedition will soon be included in the collection of the virtual museum "The Greater Altai - the ancestral home of the Turks", created within the framework of the project "Turkic world of the Greater Altai: unity and diversity in history and modernity" of Altai State University.
