Altai State University to join the All-Russian campaign "Open Days of Archaeology"
From August 15 to 18, the All-Russian campaign "Open Days of Archaeology" will be held in Altai Krai. This educational and popular science project aims to introduce a wide audience to knowledge about history and archaeology, archaeological and historical monuments of our country and methods of archaeological research.
The Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow) acts as the main organizer of the campaign. It unites leading scientific centers in the field of archaeology and museums of different regions to organize events dedicated to the popularization of the archaeological heritage of our country.
Seven museums of Altai Krai joined the campaign, including the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of Altai of Altai State University.
On August 16, starting at 15:00, the museum will host excursions, where archaeologists' discoveries will be presented. Guests will see, among other things, the exhibition "Ancient Nomads of Northern Altai", dedicated to the Scythian period.
"The exhibition includes artifacts from the period of the 5th-3rd centuries BC, found in the burial ground of Khankarinsky Dol in the Krasnoshchyokovsky district of Altai Krai. The exhibition presents a reconstruction of the details of a headdress which is richer than the headdress of the well-known "Altai Princess of Ukok" in terms of the number of gold decorations. In addition, you can see a reconstruction of a horse's bridle made of horn, which is one of the earliest examples of horse equipment associated with the Pazyryk culture. The museum also displays exhibits from the Yaloman II burial ground (the village of Maly Yaloman, Ongudaysky District, the Altai Republic): the base of a women's saddle, arrow shafts and various arrowheads," said museum director Yaroslav Frolov.
