AltSU hosted an international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Institute of Geography

On March 26, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Geographic Research of Siberia and the Altai-Sayan Transboundary Region" started its work at Altai State University.

The conference, which brought together a large number of participants both offline and online, is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Institute of Geography of Altai State University and the 85th jubilee of Viktor Revyakin, founder of the Faculty of Geography, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Honorary Member of the Russian Geographical Society.

Rector of Altai State University Sergey Bocharov, Director of the Institute of Geography, Altai State University, Doctor of Geography Alexander Dunets, Professor of the Department of EG&C of the Institute of Water and Environmental Problems of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Altai State University from 2016 to 2019, Nikolay Bykov, and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Altai State University since 1998 to 2001 Nadezhda Shakhova addressed the participants.

“The geography of our conference is very large. In addition to various regions of Russia, these are Canada, Czech Republic, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan. Colleagues and students of Viktor Revyakin, leading researchers of educational and scientific institutions of the world, presented their reports,” noted Director of the Institute of Geography of Altai State University Alexander Dunets. “According to the established tradition, once every five years we celebrate the foundation day of the faculty and this year for the first time we also dedicated the event to the jubilee of the first dean of the faculty, Viktor Revyakin. Therefore, the topics of the reports are very diverse: from the basics and traditions to promising areas of development. In addition, a considerable share of the speeches is associated with the diverse scientific research of Viktor Revyakin."

For example, at the conference, there were reports on the stages of scientific and scientific-organizational activities, the main scientific achievements of Viktor Revyakin, the development of his ideas within the framework of modern trends in geography, and also touched upon topical problems of modern nature management and conservation of natural heritage, problems and prospects of transboundary interaction, geographic education in a changing world, etc. There was a discussion of the role and prospects for the development of Altai Krai, new results of physical and geographical research in the region, and glaciological research and prospects for the development of the tourism direction of the region's economy.
