TASS summed up the work of the SEC of Altai State University "The Greater Altai"
Head of the network project "Turkic-Mongolian World of the Greater Altai: unity and diversity in history and modernity", President of Altai State University, Doctor of Law Sergei Zemlyukov, opening the event, stressed that the flagship university of Altai Krai has been systematically moving towards the creation of the Scientific and Educational Center for Altaistics and Turkology "The Greater Altai" for the last ten years, and last year this project was implemented on the platform of Altai State University.
“The Greater Altai is a territory that unites countries such as Russia, China, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. This is a multitude of ethnic groups and confessions, the historical and modern problems of which we are studying within the framework of our project,” noted Sergey Zemlyukov. “We managed to attract our partners from the leading universities of Central Asia, Turkic and Altaistic centers of the world to work. Among them are Tomsk State University, Institute of Archeology and Ethnography SB RAS, Kazan Federal University, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Kyrgyz National University named after Zhusup Balasagyn and others. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, we have created an effective model of scientific and educational cooperation."
The leading speakers of the international presentation included: Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Study of Archeology of Western Siberia and Altai at Altai State University, Chairman of the International Expert Council of the Greater Altai Scientific and Research Center Anatoly Derevyanko, Director of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Funk, Rector of the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn Kanat Sadykov, Professor of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi Gulnara Useynova, Professor of the Eurasian National University named after L. Gumilev Albina Zhanbosinova.
“This is a large integration project in which specialists of various fields are involved, from archaeologists and linguists to ethnographers and lawyers. It is of immense international importance, because it includes scientists, teachers, researchers from a number of countries. These are formed scientific teams, united thanks to the SEC "The Greater Altai" into a single collaboration, which faces not only research tasks, but also the problem of preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the countries of this territory, fostering a respectful attitude to the culture and traditions of the ethnic groups living here. Another very important task is the training of personnel, young researchers who implement the plans of the center,” said the chairman of the International Expert Council of the SEC “The Greater Altai”.
According to Anatoly Derevyanko, one of the main results of the work of the Scientific and Educational Center for Altaistics and Turkic Studies "The Greater Altai" over the past year, was the creation of the International School of Young Scientists - Turkologists, headed by a graduate student of Altai State University Georgy Kazakov. The RAS Academician added that this is only the beginning of the productive work of the Altai State University SEC, which, of course, cannot be limited to several years, but should become the start of a large scientific work.
After an hour-long presentation, organized by the TASS press center, an acquaintance with the results of the work of the project participants took place, the leaders of 6 scientific project groups of the SEC of Altai State University "The Greater Altai" spoke.
“Summing up, we can state that the Scientific and Educational Center of Altaistics and Turkic Studies “The Greater Altai” took place as an international research platform. It includes more than 50 scholars of Turkology, representing 20 Russian and 13 foreign scientific, educational and academic institutions. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, dozens of events were held, and the joint efforts and interaction of scientists from the Greater Altai countries made it possible to carry out a number of comprehensive studies," said Rector of Altai State University Sergei Bocharov, expressing his appreciation to all participants in the international presentation for their support and willingness to cooperate.
The Greater Altai REC was announced at the Altai-Asia international forum, where leading scientists-Turkologists from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China supported the idea of creating such a center in Altai. The result of the forum was the signing of an agreement between Altai State University and GASU (Gorno-Altai State University) on the organization of the scientific and educational Center for Altaistics and Turkology "The Greater Altai". Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation, Altai State University received a state assignment for a comprehensive research and educational project "The Turkic-Mongolian world of the Greater Altai: historical and cultural heritage and modernity."
