Head of the Department of Theoretical Cybernetics and Applied Mathematics of AltSU Elena Ponkina and an associate professor of this Department Vera Zhuravleva paid a working visit to four universities in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. As a result, agreements were reached on the development of international scientific and educational cooperation with universities of Uzbekistan in the field of mathematical modeling and artificial intelligence technologies to solve the problems of efficient land use and sustainable development of rural areas in the regions of North and Central Asia, in particular, in the southernmost region of Uzbekistan - Surkhandarya region.

At the Denau Institute of Entrepreneurship and Pedagogy, experts took part in an international scientific and practical conference and discussed the implementation of joint master's programs. At Samarkand State University, experts from AltSU held a joint seminar “Methods and models for studying the factors of agricultural land use and adaptation to climate change” and discussed the prospects for joint interdisciplinary research. A meeting with the Rector was held at Termez State University, where issues of scientific and educational cooperation were discussed. In Dushanbe, experts from AltSU met with the leadership of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan and agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation between universities in the near future.

“The most impotantt direction for the Surkhandarya region, and indeed for the Republic of Uzbekistan as a whole, is the use and development of digital technologies in the field of agricultural production, as well as modeling, analysis and forecasting of socio-economic processes with the assessment of food security,” said Head of the Department of Theoretical Cybernetics and Applied Mathematics, Elena Ponkina, an associate professor of Altai State University. "In Uzbekistan, from 1990 to 2020, the population increased by 10 million people, so the issue of ensuring food security is very important. Accordingly, in a limited area with a difficult arid climate, tools that ensure more efficient use of water and land resources and increase crop yields are of particular importance."

Actual tasks of sustainable development of the regions of Uzbekistan will be analyzed and solved as part of the project work of undergraduates studying in the joint international magistracy of AltSU. Since 2022, the Denau Institute of Entrepreneurship and Pedagogy has been implementing a joint international master's program "Applied Mathematics and Informatics in the Socio-Economic Sphere and Education" under the guidance of an associate professor of Altai State University Vera Zhuravleva. In addition, three undergraduates are studying under the program "Digital Data Analysis Technologies for the Sustainable Development of the Regions of North and Central Asia," developed by experts from the REC of Altaic and Turkic studies “The Greater Altai” under the guidance of Elena Ponkina, an associate professor of Altai State University.

"The topics of IT areas at the universities of Uzbekistan are close to ours, and the set of programming languages is the same. There are new and comfortable computer labs, modern equipment in lecture halls," said Vera Zhuravleva, an associate professor of Altai State University. "A technopark is being launched at the Denau Institute of Entrepreneurship and Pedagogy for developments in the field of digital economy in various areas, and our undergraduates have good prospects for developing their own digital products to solve urgent problems of development of the Surkhandarya region."

Elena Ponkina noted the cordiality with which AltSU experts were received in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan:

— I would like to thank all colleagues for the warm welcome, positive attitude towards cooperation with Altai State University, as well as openness and readiness to work!
