Altai State University entered the TOP-20 universities “Three Missions of the University” in the field of “geography”
The RAEX agency published subject rankings of Russian universities for the third time. In 2024, the number of areas assessed increased to 36 – the lists of the best included 170 universities from 43 regions of Russia.
Altai State University was able to enter the TOP-20 subject ranking “Three Missions of the University” in the direction of “geography”.
Let us recall that the number of subjects of the Russian Federation in whose territory educational organizations of higher education are included in the Moscow international ranking “Three Missions of the University” is included in the list of indicators of the national project “Science and Universities”. At the same time, Altai State University is the only university in Altai Krai that managed to enter this ranking.
The ranking is based solely on objective indicators and does not use the results of expert surveys. They used data from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, bibliometric data providers, organizers of student competitions “I am a Professional”, SCAN-Interfax media and social media monitoring and analysis systems, online course aggregators, Informer Technologies data on website traffic, as well as data from social networks YouTube, Telegram, and Vkontakte.
When assessing the first – educational – mission of universities, the quality of training of enrolled applicants, the university’s staffing levels, the competitiveness of master’s programs, the amount of funding, the results of students’ performance at Russian student olympiads, and the number of massive online courses are assessed.
Indicators of the “Science” group include bibliometric indicators (publications and their citations) according to the Web of Science and RISC databases, income from research adjusted for scale, the scale of training of highly qualified personnel (graduate studies), the number of dissertation defenses, as well as the share of extra-budgetary sources in total expenditures on research and development.
When assessing the third, public mission of universities, both subject and institutional indicators related to the university as a whole were taken into account. Thus, at the subject level, comparisons were made based on indicators measuring: the university’s contribution to training personnel for the region, the share of students in the field nationwide, the share of students of target training, the share of first-year students from other regions. Institutional level criteria, also used in the “Society” group, are the amount of income from additional vocational training programs and the number of students trained in them, the diversity of knowledge at the university level (the number of programs available for enrollement), the readership of the university's website and the number of subscribers on social networks, as well as the mention frequency of the university in the media.
