The Amitel news agency published information that the activists of Altai State University planted an alley of 19 young fir trees on November 2, 2020.

The event was attended by students from Armenia, Bangladesh, Iraq, Kazakhstan, China, Somalia, Tajikistan and Russia. The seedlings were brought from the base of educational practices of Altai State University "Chemal" in the Republic of Altai. Now they will grow in the courtyard of the modern residential complex Univer City.

"Univer City is home to about 300 foreign students. We support friendship between peoples. We also advocate greening the city, so on the eve of National Unity Day we decided to hold an environmental campaign that will unite students of different nationalities. Green Alley will delight many generations of students of the flagship university", noted Director of the AltSU student campus administration Ashot Poghosyan.

During the event, the unity of the peoples was manifested. Regardless of nationalities and linguistic difficulties, students helped each other. So, the students from Tajikistan quickly took shovels in their hands and helped the girls from Africa to lay the turf.

"There are no Christmas trees in Africa, but there are many palms. Trees are life, clean air and harmony. I plant a fir tree for the first time in my life, I hope it will grow tall and slender",  IIEMIS student Mariam Kamara from the African country of Mali shared her impressions.

First-year students of the Institute of Social Sciences Lyudmila Murzina and Yulia Boychuk from Russia also decided to decorate the trees for the New Year. According to them, it is important not only to plant, but also to preserve and care for. And Rozhina Ilba, a student at the Institute of History and International Relations of Altai State University from Syria, said that this is a very touching action for her:

"I want the trees we have planted to remind everyone of peace and goodness, and that we must take care of nature".

This is not the first environmental event held at AltSU. In the spring of 2020, the flagship university developed a project for the development of green spaces in Barnaul. The "new green wave" was approved by the city administration and will be used in practice.
