On September 25, Thermo Fisher Scientific Days started at the Institute of Biological Medicine of Altai State University with the support of DiaM Company.

An exhibition of equipment was presented on the site of flagship university of Altai Krai. Seminars and master classes on the following topics were held as part of the presentation of Thermo Fisher solutions:

  • Thermo Fisher Scientific flow cytometry solutions;
  • Analysis of subpopulations of leukocytes without lysis and blood washing using an Attune NxT flow cytometer;
  • Identification of bacteria in various sources and analysis of their viability;
  • Ploidy analysis of the plant nuclei, etc.

According to ASU scientists, the equipment presented at the exhibition will allow to study the effect of substances developed at the Russian-American Anti-Cancer Center and Research Institute for Biological Medicine of Altai State University on the immunological parameters of humans and animals, which is necessary for the implementation of strategic projects of the flagship university. The equipment can also be useful to students majoring in molecular biology, cytology and immunology.

“Introducing Thermo Fisher Scientific products, we make it clear to scientists what equipment is relevant today and exists in the world. For example, we introduce equipment for cell analysis, polymerase chain reaction, visualization of various things, and so on. There are a lot of opportunities. One of them is to show the capabilities of a flow cytometer, which can work with mammalian cells, bacteria, and plant cells. It allows you to measure the parameters of millions of cells in a very short time. And all this is possible on one device for several hours!” the senior specialist consultant of DiaM Evgeny Zonov said. “The scientists at Altai State University have shown particular interest in Thermo Fisher Scientific equipment, which is why we organized master classes, an exhibition and a presentation for them.”

Throughout the event, the following Thermo Fisher Scientific equipment was on display and available for study:

  • EVOSM5000 fluorescence microscope with the ability to demonstrate the operation of the device on your samples;
  • MiniAmp Plus DNA Amplifier;
  • Qubit™ 4.0 fluorimeter;
  • Egel™ Power Snap electrophoresis system;
  • Western blot equipment.
