Over 120 young inventors gathered at ASU to participate in the regional competition in robotics

On March 14-15 Altai State University held a two-day regional competition in robotics and intelligent systems for the pupils of Altai Krai.

The competition was traditionally organized by Altai State University in cooperation with the Regional Information and Technical Center and the Center for Youth Innovation Creativity of Altai State University.

This year the schoolchildren showed unprecedented interest in the competition. 60 teams consisting of 120 young inventors from the cities and regional centers of Altai Krai took an active part in the event.

"This competition was the primary stage in order to select children to participate in the All-Siberian and All-Russian competitions. The children were divided into three age groups. The first group included 23 teams composed of students up to 10 years old, the second group included 20 teams of children under 13 and the third group consisted of 17 teams of high school pupils and college students up to 18 years old,” Vice Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology, competition curator, chairman of the judges Vasyli Belozerskikh explained. “Our main task was to identify and support talented children and young people in the field of technical creativity, create conditions for further intellectual and creative development, raise pupils’ and young people’s interest in technical creativity. Moreover, the event helped us popularize engineering specialties in the field of robotics among children and young people."

The first day of the event was dedicated to the so-called robot fights.

"We’ve managed to raise the level of education in the field of robotics in the region to a high level in the recent four years, during which this competition was held in Altai State University. With the help of annual modular schools we’ve developed a significant base of robotics enthusiasts throughout the region. Therefore, every year the number of teams grows," Vasily Belozerskikh said.

The second day was dedicated to the presentation of the pupils’ creative projects. The organizers noted that the competition stage of the contest turned out to be more complicated and spectacular this year. The participants brought "trained" robots in terms of software. Children, according to the jury, have learned to write more complex programs for the movement of robots.
