On September 24, at Altai State University within the framework of the IV International Educational Forum "Altai - Asia 2020: Eurasian Educational Space - New Challenges and Best Practices" an expert and analytical session "The Turkic World in the CIS Space: Foundations, Trends and Prospects" was held.

The initiator of the expert session was the Scientific and Educational Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies The Greater Altai of Altai State University and the Association of Asian Universities.

The event was attended by leading scientists-turkologists from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China, representing the following universities: Institute of Archeology and Ethnography SB RAS (Novosibirsk, Russia), Tomsk State University (Tomsk, Russia), Bashkir State University (Ufa, Russia), Kirghiz National University named after J. Balasagyn (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic), Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov (Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan), Research Center "Altai-Tanu" East Kazakhstan University (Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan). A separate group of participants in the expert session was represented by young researchers-Turkologists of Russia and Central Asian states, as well as heads of national-cultural centers and associations of the Altai Territory.

At the expert-analytical session, the methodological aspects of studying the Turkic world, its evolution in the historical space of Russia and the countries of Central Asia, the historical foundations and values of the Turkic peoples of the post-Soviet space, trends in their modern ethnopolitical, ethnosocial practices were considered. The purpose of the expert session was also to analyze the modern development of the Turkic world in the context of global transformations of the world geopolitical space in the late XX - early XXI century; identification of the integration potential of the post-Soviet civilization, which today determines the vector of Turkic-speaking solidarity, support and cooperation between the CIS countries. The experts also discussed a wide range of issues related to the prospects of interaction between the peoples of the Turkic world in the 21st century and the role of Russia in these processes.

"An important moment of the expert-analytical session was the presentation by  Altai State University of the Scientific and Educational Center for Altaistics and Turkology "The Greater Altai". We discussed with colleagues from four countries plans for the further development and institutionalization of our center. It was very important for us that representatives of universities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China, where there are Turkological centers and specialized departments, supported our idea of creating a center and expressed their readiness to take an active part in the implementation of all projects of the center", said  Head of the Department of Oriental Studies of the Institute of History and International Relations at AltSU Yulia Lysenko.

Within the framework of the expert-analytical session, the scientific community expressed the idea that further consolidation of multilateral international scientific cooperation is necessary in order to preserve and enhance the cultural heritage of the peoples of the Turkic-Mongolian world and to solve the problems of social security and sustainable development of states and territories of the Eurasian space.

During the discussion that unfolded at the expert session, the need to strengthen the interaction of the international Turkic community on the training of young researchers-Turkologists was noted. In this regard, a proposal was made to support the initiative of Altai State University to create on the platform of the REC of Altaistics and Turkic Studies "The Greater Altai" a permanent School of Young Turkologists. With the participation of the International Expert Council of the REC of Altaistics and Turkology "The Greater Altai" and leading specialists from universities in Russia and Central Asian states, in November 2020, hold the International Scientific Youth Forum "Russia and the Turkic World: the View of the Youth of the Greater Altai Countries".

The participants of the expert session decided to apply to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the administration of the SCO with a request to support the initiative of the REC of Altaistics and Turkic Studies "The Greater Altai" to implement joint network basic professional and additional educational programs with the involvement of leading teachers, scientists in the field of Altaistics, Turkology , Mongolian Studies of Russia and Central Asian States.
