The international scientific conference dedicated to the 75th birthday of Yury Kiryushin was held at AltSU

On January 14, the reading hall of the Presidential Library named after Boris Yeltsin at Altai State University hosted the International Scientific Conference "Archeology of North and Central Asia: New Discoveries and Results of Interdisciplinary Research" dedicated to the 75th birthday of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of the Higher School of the Russian Federation, Honored Worker of the Republic of Altai, the founder of the scientific school in the field of archeology Yury Kiryushin.

Thanks to the online format, the conference was attended by Yury Kiryushin’s colleagues and students from Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Omsk, Yekaterinburg, Kemerovo, St. Petersburg, Khanty-Mansiysk, as well as from Kazakhstan and Germany. The chairman of the organizing committee of the conference, Head of the Department of Archeology, Ethnography and Museology of  the Institute of History and International Relationships at Altai State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Alexei Tishkin, opening the event, read a congratulatory telegram from the Minister of Education and Science of Altai Krai Maxim Kostenko, in which Head of the Regional Ministry of Education noted that the name of Yury Kiryushin for his great personal contribution to the development of historical science has been included in the Book of Honor of Siberia and the scientist was awarded the honorary title Honored Worker of the Higher School of the Russian Federation.

The conference participants and the hero of the day were greeted by Academician of the RAS, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Scientific Advisor to the Director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS Vyacheslav Molodin, Corresponding Member of the RAS, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the RAS, Director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS Andrei Krivoshapkin, Rector of Altai State University Sergey Bocharov, Director of the Institute of History and International Relations, Candidate of Historical Sciences Ivan Nazarov.

“The status and authority of a university is based on the merits of individuals and scientists who work in it. And even more so, such people who not only have become successful scientists themselves, but also thanks to their work and organizational skills, have become the founders of scientific schools recognized internationally and set development trends for many decades. Altai State University is lucky - we have such scientists, and one of them, undoubtedly, is Yury Kiryushin, with the working experience at the university of over 40 years,” emphasized in his speech Rector of Altai State University Sergey Bocharov. “Under the leadership of Yury Kiryushin, Altai State University was included in the top 100 best universities in Russia. This is a very worthy result - the result of hard work. The scientific school, that he created, has been successfully developing and educating recognized scientists, the authors and co-authors of world-class discoveries and publications in the most authoritative journals."

A number of speeches by the conference participants were devoted to Yury Kiryushin’s biography, his scientific activity and contribution to the development of certain areas of archeology. In addition, during the three sessions of the conference, reports were presented, reflecting various aspects of the research work of archaeologists in the territory of North and Central Asia.
