AltSU scientists are developing the first mobile application guide to the Chuisky Tract (The Chuya Highway or the Russian route R256)

3 August 2022 Department of Information and Media Communications

The mobile application "Chuysky Tract - the tourist meridian of Siberia" will help travelers not to miss amazing cultural, archaeological and geographical sites. Also, the application will contain the necessary information for travelers about collective services.

Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Development of Altai State University Alexander Dunets says:

— Our project is of interdisciplinary nature. The application is being developed by scientists from several institutes of Altai State University. So, geographers are now selecting objects that will be included in the audio guide database, and university IT specialists are developing a web service that will store all the data, as well as the mobile application itself. Unlike Yandex-maps and other similar services, our application will contain detailed information about cultural, archaeological and geographical objects that can be found along the Chuysky Tract. It turns a simple car trip into an exciting excursion.

The app will be available for iOS and Android operating systems. It can be downloaded and installed on a phone for free. A test launch is scheduled for autumn 2022.

The project "Chuysky Tract - the tourist meridian of Siberia" is dedicated to the centenary of the Chuysky Tract. It is being implemented with a grant support from the Russian Geographical Society.

It is worth noting that the Chuisky Tract is one of the ten most beautiful roads in the world according to National Geographic. During the summer tourist season, this road is very popular and heavily loaded - up to 43,000 cars pass there every day. This year, Altai is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the state status of the tract.
