Students of the AltSU Institute of Social Sciences help large families using virtual resources

The Institute of Social Sciences of the flagship Altai State University, being at the forefront of educational, research and practical activities, always takes into account the current requirements of the time.

In particular, today, when the conventional foundations are collapsing, social ties are being deformed, and we are all on the verge of a turning point, large families are in a particularly difficult situation. Some of them just have to survive. Given these conditions, AltSU sociologists have found a new format for cooperation at the Department of Social Work under the leadership of Svetlana Chudova, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, and the Altai Community of Large and Foster Families Having a lot of kids is good! led by Svetlana Litvinova.

Students of group 1082 came to the aid of a long-term and reliable partner of the department. The forced self-isolation of students allowed to use only virtual resources, which determined the essence and technology of their work. After completing intensive training at a video conference for 5 hours, a day later, students organized work to attract philanthropists to assist large families: they looked for potential benefactors on the Internet, wrote and sent letters to them, etc. Only during the first two days, students managed to raise 10 thousand rubles.

“When you learn that you managed to find a benefactor, you feel joy. After all, you understand that now there is an opportunity to really help - maybe for a short time, but provide the family with food. My work helped me to make sure that working in a team you can achieve a lot” Victoria Lapshina, a student, sums up the new format of activity.

“It was my first time when I tried to be a volunteer. And I am very glad that during this period of quarantine I had such a great opportunity to contribute to helping large families in difficult situations. The knowledge and skills acquired during this practice as a volunteer in the public organization Having a lot of kids is good! It was an excellent incentive for me to work actively and inspired me to develop further in this area. We will help as long as possible, and I hope that we will succeed. I am grateful for such a professional and life experience” notes Milana Tobosheva, a sociology student.

"Work in the organization Having a lot of kids is good! is an important stage in my life. I learned that there are families in my immediate vicinity who need help, other participants and I can help them! This work gave me the opportunity to learn more about companies based in Barnaul, and, of course, to understand that the people around are always ready to help those in need, you just need not to be afraid to ask them about it! I consider this a wonderful experience which will be useful to me in the future. I also want to note that without teamwork it would be difficult to achieve fruitful results, and I want to thank all the organizers of this work!” emphasized another student of the AltSU Institute of Social Sciences, Daria Shchegoleva.

“This is my first experience. Of course, I knew that there were disadvantaged people, but until this day, I personally did not have to help them. And thanks to the organization Having a lot of kids is good!, I gained significant experience. Understanding that the life of people really depends on you and you can help them is the main incentive for me” says future sociologist Anastasia Tokina.

Head of the Altai Community of Large and Foster Families Having a lot of kids is good!, Svetlana Litvinova thanked students of the Altai State University Institute of Social Sciences for smooth and effective work:

“In such difficult time, your students do not avoid difficulties, but are sincerely interested in helping large families, and show a high level of responsibility for the task entrusted. One can and should be proud of this young generation”.

Volunteers of the AltSU Institute of Social Sciences continue their work on social assistance to large families.
