Cooperating with Korea

12 September 2016 Asian Expert-Analytical Center of Ethnology and International Educational Cooperation

In spring 2016 Altai State University and Korean Institute for International Relations of Dongguk University (Seoul, the Republic of Korea) signed an agreement, which involves joint research on history and international and political problems of Asia. One of such projects called “Koreans in Russia and CIS” has already been implemented. It includes creation of electronic encyclopedia about Russian Koreans and book series about Koreans’ life in post-Soviet countries. The project is carried out by representatives of partner-university (project supervisor Hong Un Ho), a number of other scientific and educational centers of Korea, Central Asia and Russia. Russian side is represented by researchers from Volgograd, Vladivostok and Barnaul, namely Altai State University, co-director of Asian Expert-Analytical Center of Ethnology and International Educational Cooperation, Doctor of History V.S. Boiko.

At the end of July 2016 V.S. Boiko participated in International Conference “History of Soviet Koreans and Modern Times” and briefing on the new project that took place in Jeoju. Professor of the local university Yun Wan Song is a co-supervisor of the project and grant administrator. The meeting participants also included representatives of the local university’s authorities that expressed their interest towards cooperating with Altai, which is Koreans’ historical homeland according to the legend. Koreans also stated their willingness to strengthen the interuniversity relations.
