Faculty of Geography of ASU establishes cooperation with British Antarctic Survey

Lecturers of the Faculty of Geography of Altai State University O.N. Baryshnikova and O.V. Denisenko, being a part of the international Erasmus + delegation, visited British Antarctic Survey.

The purpose of the scientists’ visit was to discuss the prospects of joint scientific and educational activities in the field of environmental research.

The Arctic Office was established at the initiative of Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), which funds a large part of UK environmental research. Its task is to unite the efforts of scientists from different countries of the world to address global issues on the implementation of sustainable development policies in the Arctic.

The meeting was chaired by the head of the Arctic Office of British Antarctic Survey, Henry Burgess. Mr. Burgess presented an overview of current aspects of Arctic research by British scientists and spoke about the possibilities for developing cooperation between Russian and British scientists.

During the meeting, Assistant Professor at the Department of Physical Geography and Geo-Information Systems O.N. Baryshnikov touched upon scientific and educational activities of ASU Faculty of Geography. At the end of the round table, the parties decided to exchange the necessary information and specific proposals for the development of cooperation between Altai State University and the Arctic Office of British Antarctic Survey.
