ASU Professor makes presentation at the headquarters of International Organization for Migration in Geneva

Professor of Altai State University took part in a one-day seminar that was held on November 7 at the headquaters of one of the leading United Nations agencies, the International Organization for Migration.

Doctor of Sociology, Professor, Head of the Department of Psychology of Communications and Psychotechnologies, Director of the Asian Expert and Analytical Center for Ethnology and International Educational Cooperation Svetlana G. Maksimova presented a report entitled “Transit migration, transit regions and Russian migration policy: security and Eurasian integration”, summarizing the results of comprehensive sociological research in seven border regions of Russia (Murmansk, Pskov, Rostov and Orenburg Oblast, Altai Krai, Republic of Altai and Republic of Dagestan) conducted as part of the research project with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

The report devoted to the ethnocultural, demographic and socio-economic characteristics of Russian border regions, the mathematical and statistical analysis of migration processes, public opinion, expert assessments and interviews with migrants, aroused great interest in the international community and confirmed the high scientific level of research conducted by the scientific team of the Faculty of Sociology at Altai State University.

It is to be noted that the presentation was organized by the host party. As indicated in the invitation documents, the International Organization for Migration was interested in the results of sociological research, which made it possible for them to determine the nature of interaction within migrant community and people's attitude towards migration processes.

The event turned out to be important both for the dissemination of the results obtained in the framework of the scientific project, and for the promotion of Altai scientists and Altai State University in the global scientific and educational space.
