SCImago Institutions Rankings is a ranking of educational institutions and research centers from around the world. It is considered one of the most objective, since it evaluates universities and research organizations on the basis of independent sources - according to information from international databases over the past five years. An organization is automatically ranked if there are at least 100 articles in the Scopus database over the past year.

The rating is based on 17 criteria, evaluated in the context of three areas:

  1. Criteria for evaluating research work – this group includes eleven criteria, the total weight coefficient of which is 50%. The source of information for this group is the scientometric database Scopus.
  2. Criteria for evaluating innovation – this group includes three criteria, the total weight coefficient of which is 30%. The source of information is the PATSTAT database.
  3. Criteria for assessing social impact – three web indicators are included, the total weight coefficient is 20%. The sources of information are Google and Ahrefs.
