New rector of Altai State University has been elected

On June 14, a conference of scientific and pedagogical workers, representatives of other categories of workers and students on the election of the new rector was held at flagship Altai State University.

The position of the head of the university was claimed by the Acting Rector of ASU, Doctor of Economics, Professor Sergey N. Bocharov, Vice-Rector for Economics and Strategic Development of Altai State Technical University, Candidate of Economics Alexander A. Zhidkikh and Doctor of Biology, Professor, head of the Department of Zoology and Physiology at ASU Alexander V. Matsyura.

The election ceremony was attended by 217 delegates – representatives of all departments of the university selected in accordance with the standards of representation and regulations on the election of the rector of Altai State University.
Candidates for the position of the rector made presentation to the delegates with the main theses of their programs, after which they were asked questions from representatives of the workforce regarding the future development of the university.

Then the conference participants proceeded to the secret ballot procedure. According to the regulations on the election of the rector of ASU, a candidate who receives 50% + 1 vote from the number of delegates who participated in the voting is considered elected.

According to the election protocol Sergey N. Bocharov won the majority of 133 votes, Alexander A. Zhidkikh got 23 votes, Alexander V. Matsyura scored 51 votes. Thus, Sergey N. Bocharov has been elected rector of Altai State University.

Sergey N. Bocharov addressed the university staff with gratitude speech.

“Thank you so much for your support! I regard it as an advance, as a hope for positive changes, which I will definitely try to justify! I understand all the responsibility. Over the past period, I had the opportunity to see how difficult the work of the rector was. I promise that I will continue to work only for the good of the university. The period of pre-election uncertainty is over. Now you need to build work in a quiet mode. I will make every effort for this. I also want to express my gratitude to my opponents Alexander A. Zhidkikh and Alexander V. Matsyura for the gentleman’s election campaign, for the determination to go to the end, which made it possible to hold elections in full compliance with the regulatory documents and for the constructive ideas presented in their programs, some of them deserve attention and can be used in the future work of the university. I also want to express my gratitude to those who helped me in previous work and in the election campaign, as well as to all my colleagues for the open and tacit support!” Sergey N. Bocharov said.

According to the regulations on the election of the rector of Altai State University, the candidate elected by the conference will officially take office after issuing the relevant order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
