Expert Analytical Center has published the fifth Subject Publication Activity Ranking of Russian universities.

This year, 127 universities qualified for getting into the ranking in at least one subject (comparing to 125 in 2019).

The flagship Altai State University entered the TOP-10 universities in Russia in the field of "Arts and Humanities", occupying the 10th position in the ranking immediately after the participant of the 5-100-Russian Peoples' Friendship University project. It should be added that, in addition to AltSU, only 4 universities of the Siberian Federal District were able to meet the threshold requirements and were included in the ranking in this area, and all of them are leading universities in Russia - participants in Project 5-100: Novosibirsk State University, Tomsk State University, Siberian Federal University and Tomsk Polytechnic University.

In addition, AltSU is ranked 18th in the field of Environmental Science, and 21st in the direction of Life Sciences.

Three large criteria were taken as the basis for ranking:

• the scope and sustainability of the university’s scientific activity (how large and cited the university’s research teams are which conduct research in this subject area);

• high-demand scientific activity (the level of journals in which researchers publish their articles and the average number of citations per article);

• growth quality (the quality of citations and the index of concentration of publications in journals, excluding opportunistic practices of increasing publications).

It is worth mentioning that AltSU is noted in the Expert Analytical Centre ranking in Humanities annually. AltSU holds high positions in the ranking due to publications by AltSU scientists in the TOP-3 of the most influential and cited journals in the world - over the past 4 years, 4 articles in Nature, 3 articles in Science, and 2 articles in Science Advances have been published.

It should be noted that, thanks to AltSU, the only university in the region included in the ranking, Barnaul is adequately presented on the map of university science published by the ranking compilers.
