On March 23, the official website of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research published about Roman V. Yakovlev, Professor of the Department of Ecology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the Institute of Biology and Biotechnology of Altai State University, who collected unique material on a series of insect groups during an expedition to Latin America.

For more than a month, the professor was engaged in research in the province of Jujuy, near the borders with Chile and Bolivia.

The scientist was given the opportunity to get acquainted with the fauna of primary, completely untouched rainforests at different altitudes. He collected there unique material on several groups of insects and will now be able to prepare a series of scientific publications. Also, insects from the family Cossidae were subjected to molecular genetic research.
This was not his first time in Latin America. At first he worked in the equatorial forests of Peru. The second trip was possible due to a grant support from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

“The general impressions of Argentina are positive: hospitable, nice people, beautiful cities, especially Buenos Aires and Cordoba, with a well-tolerated climate,” said the professor.
