ASU archaeologists took part in conference in Kazakhstan

At the beginning of April head of ASU Department of Archaeology, Ethnography and Museology A.A. Tishkin and assistant professor of the same department N.N. Seregin participated in traditional International Scientific and Methodical Conference “The 8th Orazbaev Readings” dedicated to modern methods and approaches towards studying the historical and cultural heritage of Kazakhstan and neighbouring countries. The event took place in Almaty and was confined to the 25th anniversary of Kazakhstan independence. The conference was organized by the lecturers of the Department of Archaeology, Ethnology and Museology under Al-Farabi Kazakh National University together with the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan employees. The collective volume of scientific works had been published by the beginning of the forum. It includes Barnaul scientists’ research results, which had been achieved in the framework of joint project of Altai State University and Kazakh National University. Apart from delivering their reports, A.A. Tishkin and N.N. Seregin studied the expositions of the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan and other organizations of the similar specialization. The most attentions was paid to the State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve-Museum Tanbaly (Tamgaly). Here the ancient petroglyphs and other historical objects included in the List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites are located. In the course of the trip, ASU scientists visited the archaeological excavation site and local museum Issyk, which is situated near the burial place of “golden” man of the Saka. An important part of the program was visiting the Science and Restoration Laboratory “The Crimea Island” (Almaty). A.A. Tishkin also made a public lecture for the students and lecturers of the Faculty of History, Archaeology and Ethnology at Kazakh National University.
