ASU Faculty of Geography is participating in major international project

On 9–12 March 2016 on the premises of Regional Institute for International Cooperation under Tyumen State University the coordination meeting concerning opening and presentation of “Erasmus+: Institutional partnership for the purpose of trans-border water use stability: Russia and Kazakhstan” project was conducted.

The project will combine the efforts of the universities and organizations of Russia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Great Britain, Greece and Netherlands. Russia will be represented by Altai State University, Tyumen State University, Tomsk National Research State University, Yugra State University; Kazakhstan’s participants are L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University (Astana), Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan State University (Ust-Kamenogorsk). European partner universities include the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg (Freiburg, Germany), the Aristotle University (Thessaloniki, Greece), the University of Athens (Greece), Radboud University (Netherlands), the University of Wolverhampton (Great Britain).

At the coordination the participants defined the key directions of project activities, specifically strengthening the educational partnership between the universities and enterprises in the area of trans-border water resources management on the basis of national and European standards and with allowances made for the regional particularities. Project activities will encourage achievement of such relevant objectives as educational resources modernization, academic staff professional retraining of the basis of interdisciplinary approach towards problems of the stable water use, implementation of new courses based on European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) into specialists’ professional retraining, establishment and equipment of resource centers in all partner universities.

The total sum of the grant accounts for 77.7 million roubles (approximately 1.1 million dollars), ASU share is 6.6 million roubles (100,000 dollars). The project is financed by the European Commission.

ASU Faculty of Geography acts as a key partner in the consortium of Eurasian and European partner universities and as a moderator of platforms 3 and 9 of the project. At the coordination meeting ASU Faculty of Geography was represented by its dean, Professor G.Ya. Baryshnikov and senior lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages O.V. Denisenko.
