On February 9, Timur Rakhmanov, Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk, arrived at Altai State University on a working visit.

At the meeting, AltSU Rector Sergey Bocharov emphasized the importance of international cooperation with universities in Central Asia:

— We started cooperation with the Republic of Uzbekistan recently and we keep developing it intensively. First of all, our interest is to attract applicants, because the load on universities in the Republic of Uzbekistan is very large. In this regard, it is simply necessary to solve the problem of the lack of study places in universities. I would like to note that after the first trip to Uzbekistan, 112 students were enrolled at AltSU, while only 16 students studied with us earlier. Among our partners are Samarkand State University, Tashkent State University of Economics, and other universities. Our aim is mutual fruitful work in the regions of Central Asia and the countries of the post-Soviet space.

Now about 200 citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan are studying at Altai State University, including undergraduate and graduate students. According to Roman Raikin, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development, students from the Republic of Uzbekistan are attracted by the exact sciences. Often, they choose the Institute of Mathematics and Information Technologies, Institute of Geography, and the Institute of  Digital Technologies, Electronics and Physics.

Timur Rakhmanov noted that the interest in Russian education among students of the Republic of Uzbekistan is only increasing every year:

— Partnership with Russian universities gives positive results. The number of people studying in the Russian Federation has increased by several times. It is no coincidence that 2023 has been declared the year of care for the population in the Republic. In particular, all our efforts will be directed to the purposeful development of education. The Consulate General, for its part, is ready to provide all necessary support.

Summing up the results of the meeting, the Consul General suggested that Altai State University will  develop information cooperation with the universities of Uzbekistan in social networks and the media. The working visit ended with a round table with students of Altai State University from the Republic of Uzbekistan, where each foreign student was able to ask Timur Rakhmanov a question of interest to him.

On January 31, within the framework of the working visit of the AltSU delegation to Uzbekistan, a representative office of AltSU opened on the basis of Samarkand State University. The representative center will have four divisions - the Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies, the Laboratory for Systematics and Fauna of Terrestrial Arthropod Arid and Mountainous Ecosystems of Central Asia, the Center for Geographic Information Systems and the Methodological Center for the Promotion of the Russian Language and Culture.
