Biology is a science about life. It originated in Ancient Greece, Rome, India and China. Aristotle in the 4th century BC first tried to organize the knowledge about nature by dividing it into 4 spheres: inorganic world, lkants, animals and human. For the present day biologists' developments are used in such areas as medicine, agriculture, manufacturing industry, environment protection, etc.

Biology is very complicated but interesting and absorbing at the same time. It requires researchers to know everything about all biological regularities of the wildlife.

Institute of Biology and Biotechnology offers the following programs

The Faculty of Biology has talented staff. They are highly-qualified lecturers, scientists, professors, assistant professors who teach botanics, ecology, biotechnology, biochemistry, zoology, physiology and other subjects to about 500 students.

Altai State University also has 4 sites for educational practices – Krasilovo Lake” (located in the Kosihinsky Region of Altai), the South-Siberian Botanical Garden (Barnaul), Goluboy Utes (Charyshskiy Region of Altai) and Chemal (Chemalskiy region, the Republic of Altai). There students get acquainted with the wildlife nature. In addition, senior students participate in Summer Biological Expeditions to Altai and Mongolia. Altai and Mongolia Expeditions are also available for all international comers.

All educational programs are generally in Russian. To enroll in any educational program the applicant must have B1–B2 level of Russian or take 1 year course of Russian language at the Altai State University Preparatory Department.
