In Moscow in the framework of the III National Annual Exhibition-Forum VuzPromExpo-2015 ASU presented its Prombiotech engineering center, a project for industrial biotechnologies development that is being implemented on the premises of Altai State University.

The center’s director Nadezhda V. Orlova told the audience about its prospects and noted that Prombiotech would become a center of excellence of Altai State University in the framework of forming Living Systems cluster, which included such scientific areas as biotechnology and bioengineering.

Prombiotech presentation was conducted at “Engineering Centers on the Premises of Higher Education Organizations: Getting Acquainted with the Winners of the Third Stage of Competition” round table.

Head of Interdepartmental Analytical Center Vladimir A. Petukhov was speaking on the behalf of event’s organizers and stated that engineering centers, which were being established on the premises of higher vocational education organizations, were the universities’ structural subdivisions and independent corporate entities operating in the area of engineering at the same time. Their work is aimed not only at making high-technology developments in key spheres of economy, but also largely at the integration of such elements into full engineering cycle up to commercialization.
Higher education institutions play a key role as they are the centers of knowledge generation. Their purpose is to create proper competencies and infrastructure with the support of federal budget, and to be able to introduce innovative developments in selected priority directions to the market.

The project for establishing Prombiotech engineering center for industrial biotechnologies development on the premises of Altai State University won the competition of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation for supporting the pilot projects in creating and developing the engineering centers in jurisdictional universities. ASU joined the list of 10 Russian universities (the total number of higher education institutions taking part in the competition was 79) that will be getting financing from the federal budget for the establishment of engineering centers for two years.
