Today Altai State University hosted the cultural event called “Russian people’s customs and traditions” dedicated to Easter celebrations, which will be held on 1 May this year.

The event was organized by ASU Scientific Library and International Affairs Department for the purpose of enlightening the foreign students studying at Altai State University.

“It has already become our university’s tradition to conduct events dedicated to different nations’ cultures and holidays. But we have not organized any events concerning Russian culture and traditions yet. So we decided to fix the situation and organize the cultural and enlightening lecture on the important orthodox holiday Easter,” explained head of the Department of Scientific Library Readers Service Oksana V. Nemtseva.

Oksana V. Nemtseva also noted that the event had been organized with the purpose of adapting the international students to living in Russia and studying at Russian university, telling them about Russian historical and cultural heritage, developing international relations. The students were also provided with an opportunity to participate in the masterclasses on making protective charm dolls and painting on wood.

“We’ve conducted such a grand scale event dedicated to Russian traditions for our foreign students for the first time. There were students from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and China attending the event. All of them spoke Russian well,” concluded Oksana V. Nemtseva.

The students seemed to enjoy the event. They developed a lively dialogue with the lecturers, talked about differences and similarities between the cultures and religions of Russia and their native countries. All of the participants could express their point of view and listen to their opponents’ opinion. The students noted that it was very important to respect each other’s religion and culture.
