Tea ceremony at the Faculty of History

28 February 2017 Faculty of History

Did you know that the Tajik consider tea to be not just a drink, but a source of energy for a whole day? Students and lecturers of the Faculty of History learned this and much more at the tea ceremony, which took place on 10 February 2017. The event was dedicated to the traditions of Tajikistan.

The event was organized by Tajik students of the Faculty of History. Student Parviz Khaffizoda acted as a tea master.

“My friends and I decided to organize this small performance and show tea culture of Tajikistan to others. Moreover, the guests learned not only about tea ceremony traditions, but also about Tajik clothes. We were happy to see that people were interested in our presentation. After the official part we treated the guests to tea, sweets and fruit.”

The guests did not remain indifferent indeed and shared their impressions.

“Tea-drinking process has become a habit for us, but for the people of Tajikistan it is a special ritual!” said student Arina Popova. “I was surprised by the fact that in Tajikistan green tea is traditionally drank by men, while black tea is drank by women.”

“I enjoyed the ceremony a lot. I was also impressed by the tradition to give tea to the youngest person first instead of the oldest one,” admitted student Maksim Grib. “Bright and colourful Tajik traditional clothes were gorgeous. I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers. I especially appreciated the opportunity to attend this event, because I am the future ethnographer.”
