4 thousand first-year students celebrated Knowledge Day at ASU

Altai State University for the first time celebrated the Knowledge Day in a new status as a flagship higher education establishment of Altai Krai and Russia.

Celebrations were held in the inner court of Altai State University. Holding flags and balloons, faculties’ delegations got into line near ASU main building and marched to the solemn music into the court through the symbolic Knowledge Gate.
Certainly, first-year students were the main guests of the event. 3,976 people were admitted to the flagship university of Altai Krai this year. The number is not final, as admission campaign has not ended yet.

Rector of Altai State University, Doctor of Jurisprudence, Professor Sergey V. Zemlyukov congratulated students on their first academic day:

“Altai State University admitted the best school graduates of Barnaul and Altai Krai, as well as ones from 39 constituent entities of Russia, from Murmansk to Kamchatka. The motto of our university is “You future starts here!”, so we would like to assure you that fundamental knowledge acquired here will become the basis for your future career and professional growth. Here you will receive help from the best lecturers of Siberian Federal District – assistant professors, doctors of science and professor of flagship Altai State University,” Sergey V. Zemlyukov noted. “Student life is very interesting and diverse. The main part of it is knowledge, and your key objective is to master the knowledge in order to become competitive world-class specialists. Altai State University is a research establishment, where education and science are inseparable. We have laboratories and research centers with modern fitted with modern equipment and leading academic teams that are waiting for you to join them and propose new ideas. Flagship Altai State University is an international establishment, one of the universities of Shanghai Cooperation Organization. We initiated creation of the Association of Asian Universities. We actively cooperate with leading universities of Europe, Asia, and America. Foreign students account for ¼ of the total number of first-year students. Representatives of 10 different countries were admitted to ASU, which means that out international student family continues to grow. What is more, each student of Altai State University has an opportunity to receive a double degree, undergo internship abroad, and participate in international projects. Despite the fact that ASU is a relatively young university, our graduates occupy positions in government bodies, major corporations, and progressive companies of our region and country. Our mission is to train highly qualified specialists responsible for development of Altai Krai and Russia.”

Representatives of Altai Krai government authorities and major companies also wished first-year students of Altai Krai happy Knowledge Day. Traditionally, first-year students of 2017 received symbolic knowledge keys and a giant student ID from their older fellows and ASU lecturers. At the end of the event guests listened to the hymn of Altai State University.
