The draft resolution of the 2nd general meeting of Asian Universities Association was approved
ASU Rector Sergey V. Zemlyukov opened the forum and noted that Altai Krai plays a special role in cooperation between Asia and Europe due to its unique geographical position. 4 years ago Altai State University initiated the establishment of Association, which united the higher education organizations of Central and South-East Asia. This event gave a strong impulse to integration processes in higher education and development of academic mobility and cultural relations in Asia.
“We are united by 3 important factors. Firstly, we represent the academic society. Secondly, we represent higher education institutions of the major part of Asia. Thirdly, we are united by the Associations, which we established altogether. Major and significant integrational objectives are facing us. We deal with them successfully, and I hope we will continue to do it under the auspices of Asian Universities Association,” emphasized Sergey V. Zemlyukov.
Altai Krai Deputy Governor Vitaly V. Snesar congratulated the meeting participants on behalf of Altai Krai governor Alexander B. Karlin. He noted that in the modern world education and science could be characterized by high tempo of globalization. Due to that fact the integration into world’s education scpace is now one of the key objectives of all higher education establishments.
“Altai Krai major educational organizations also take part in these processes. Altai State University takes the leading positions in this area. Moreover, it does not only take part in the work of existing organizations, but also initiated the establishment of new ones, and we can observe the results of the productive and high-quality work today,” said Vitaly V. Snesar to the meeting participants. “Asian direction is the priority direstion for Altai Krai not only for economic, but also for humane reasons. Our universities are very popular among students from friendly nations of Central and South-East Asia. Little less than 2,500 foreign students have been studying in Altai universities in 2015–2016 academic year. This number increases every year, which means that Altai universities’ education quality is very high. The work that is conducted to strengthen the relationship with foreign partner is also significant.”
The 2nd day of Association meetind was full of different events and activities. Besides plenary session, where Association Presidents, ASU Rector Sergey V. Zemlyukov presented his report on outcomes and development of Association, the participants also listened to the report called “Asian Universities Association as an effective mechanism of cooperation development and forming the unified educational space in the region” delivered by ASU Vice-Rector for International Affairs Development Roman I. Raikin.
The Association meeting was visited by big delegation from Kazakhstan, which included representatives of 8 universities. L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University headed by its Rector Erlan B. Sydykov was among them. In 2016 this university celebrated the 20th anniversary of its establishment. On the occasion of this event, the university issued the commemorative medal, which was presented to ASU Rector Sergey V. Zemlyukov. A documentary will also be dedicated to the anniversary. The movie will mention the work of the Association meeting, cooperation between Eurasian National University and ASU.
In the course of the meeting, the participants discussed the draft resolution. In the framework of the resolution, the participants agreed to establish the Youth Council under Asian Universities Association, work out the regulations and choose the council governing body at the next meeting that will be held in September 2017.
Further, according to the forum program, the participants made photos and visited the Commemorative Alley of Collaboration, where the cedars were planted in the framework of the 8th Week of Education in SCO Countries by the representatives of ministries of education of Russia, China, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries in 2014.
