The federal issue of Rossiyskaya Gazeta published a material on the International Biotechnology Symposium "BIO-Asia Altai 2021" held at Altai State University.

Last week Barnaul became for a while a real Mecca for Russia's leading biotechnologists. From September 21 to 26, the International Forum "BIOTECHNOLOGIES: Science, Education, Industry" was held here, which combined several large-scale events in the field of biotechnology, biomedicine and bioeconomics.

More than 500 representatives of science and business from 33 regions of the Russian Federation, eight countries of the world - Russia, the USA, Germany, Italy, Israel, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan became participants of the forum. The forum was organized as part of the Year of Science and Technology and included two significant events: the III International Biotechnology Symposium "BIO-Asia Altai 2021" and the IV Interregional Scientific and Practical Conference (with international participation) "From Bioproducts to Bioeconomy."

At the opening ceremony, Vugar Bagirov, Director of the Department for coordinating the activities of organizations in the field of agricultural sciences of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, noted that as part of the implementation of the national project "Science and Universities", one of the five planned agrobiotechnoparks can be created in Altai Krai, which will give impetus to development for the real sector of the economy and science. Welcoming the participants and guests of the event, Governor of Altai Krai Viktor Tomenko emphasized the relevance of the tasks considered by the Forum and the relevance of the developments presented here.

"Thematic discussions are devoted to ensuring sustainable development of both our country and our region through the use of biotechnological methods. Biotechnological scientific and educational projects will also be the subject of discussion. One of the important areas is personnel training, and competencies development. Opportunities will be considered to "ground" the projects - to turn them into real production facilities on an industrial scale. First of all, these are agriculture and forestry, the food industry and medicine," Viktor Tomenko noted.

Rector of Altai State University, Sergey Bocharov, presented a new program for the university development, in which a large role is given to the development of biotechnology, noted that the university, responding to the challenges of modernity and the needs of the region, forms a new development agenda and is ready for integration with other universities, research institutes and business representatives for the development of the region and the country as a whole.

"Our university participates in the selection of participants in the Priority 2030 program. Three of the four strategic projects of AltSU are related to biotechnology and agriculture. AltSU has created 8 consortiums with more than 20 leading scientific and educational organizations in order to achieve larger results and breakthrough developments for real sectors of the economy," Sergei Bocharov noted.

Among the projects included in the AltSU development program is the creation of a product and technology transfer center in order to ensure the interaction of education, science, business and government in the implementation of projects of a full innovation cycle, ending with the transfer of a product to a partner mainly in the fields of biotechnology, biomedicine and biopharmaceutics. The III International Biotechnology Symposium "BIO-Asia Altai 2021" continued on September 24-25 at 12 sites of Altai State University.

The main feature of the symposium this year was that it included four scientific schools for young scientists, graduate students, undergraduates and students, where they could get acquainted with modern methods of plant biotechnology, flow cytometry, mammalian cell cultivation, and others.

The work "Bio-Asia Altai 2021" went along several tracks, considering topical issues of sustainability of the bioeconomy and commercialization of developments, education in the field of biotechnology, biopharmacy and personalized medicine, plant biotechnology, chemical industry, and food products.

For each of the tracks, a large program was formed with the country's leading experts, aimed at obtaining practical results.

"Symposium "Bio-Asia Altai 2021" is a platform where you can exchange experience in the field of education and science, discuss cooperation with leading scientists from other regions and countries, which will further develop into the development of technologies and products. In order to commercialize our projects, representatives of business and government are invited to the symposium so that our cooperation will bring real results for the benefit of Altai Krai," said Sergey Bocharov, Rector of Altai State University.

The symposium started with the exhibition-exposition of research developments and biotechnological products of research teams of the flagship university of Altai Krai: microbiological preparations for agriculture, innovative biological products and technologies for the agro-industrial complex, improved planting material based on the in vitro plant method, as well as developments in areas of personalized nutrition. Undoubted "hits" were new developments of young scientists from the student business incubator of Altai State University: dry honey and vegetable marmalade for children. Today, these innovative bio-products are ready for industrial production and will soon be available in stores.

Symposium "Bio-Asia Altai 2021" became a platform for discussing strategic areas of cooperation and immediate plans for the implementation of projects within the framework of consortiums and agreements concluded by Altai State University with leading scientific and educational organizations of the country: N.I.Vavilov Research Institute of Plant Industry (St. Petersburg); Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov (Moscow), Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk); Nikitsky Botanical Garden - NSC RAS (Yalta), Russian Popato Research Center named after  A.G. Lorkh (Moscow), The Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg), etc.
