Scientific conference of Germanic studies specialists of Russia and Germany was organized by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and took place on 10–12 March 2016 in Moscow on the premises of Russian State University for Humanities.

The conference was opened by new head of DAAD Peter Hiller. The event was mainly dedicated to overcoming the barriers in science, educational space and intercultural communication. Universities internationalization is currently of the most immediate interest both in Europe and Russia. This is why more than 80 participants and guests, who had received their invitations on a competitive basis, came from Russian and German universities to share their experience in successful scientific, educational and cultural cooperation.

The working language of the conference was German. The participants’ reports were divided into four workshops: “Russian-German Partnership”, “Universities’ Language Policy”, “Germanic Studies in Russia” and “Literary Space is Space in a Literary Text”.

Assistant Professor of the Department of Germanic Linguistics and Foreign Languages Svetlana A. Zinovyeva represented ASU at the first workshop with the report titled “German Language as a Basis of German-Russian Cooperation in Educational and Scientific Environment” (“Deutsch als Basis für deutsch-russische Bildungs- und Forschungskooperationen”). The report attracted the interest of the German colleagues, especially of Professor of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg Elisabeth Cheaure. Ms. Cheaure is currently supervising an international postgraduate school, which was established on the premises of Russian State University for Humanities in Moscow and the University of Freiburg and is gets 75% of financing from the German party. She expressed her desire to visit Altai State University in order to discuss the possible collaboration in humane studies.

The audience was strongly impressed by the presentation of Northern (Arctic) Federal University of Archangelsk on “New approaches towards the development of master’s programs in foreign languages in the framework of online learning”. Innovative educational programs, described in the report, are delivered in cooperation with Russian and foreign universities. Russian as foreign language programs are realized together with China, courses based on the German language are implemented in cooperation with Germany, programs based on the English language are realized jointly with Nordic countries.

Participating in such grand-scale international event allowed S.A. Zinovyeva to extend her scientific outlook, improve her professional and linguistic skills, find new friends and co-thinkers for further projects implementation, as well as strengthen the relations between Altai State University and other major organizations.
