On April 11, Rector of Altai State University Sergei Bocharov visited the university’s ski base, where repair work has been underway since 2019.

The renovation at the ski base included two classrooms, six locker rooms, a ski storage room, the roof over the premises of separate blocks for issuing skis and storing equipment, and replacement of wooden windows with plastic ones. Additionally, a new septic tank, external sewerage pipeline and an electric boiler as an alternative (backup) heating source were installed.  These improvements were made both on the university's own accord and with the help of contractors, costing over 2 million rubles.

This year, the plan for renovation includes the central hall, showers and remaining offices and premises, replacement of the roof over the boiler room and gas heating boiler, and reconstruction of the entrance area. Also, Oleg Ilinykh, Vice-Rector for Safety and General Affairs of Altai State University, emphasized the need to install exhaust ventilation at the ski lodge (especially after replacing wooden windows with plastic ones), which was not initially provided for by the building design to ensure quality storage of inventory. These works are also included in the repair plan for 2024.

“We pay attention to every sports facility of the university – the ski lodge, the gym and our sports and fitness complex. Last year we completed the renovation of the façade of the sports and fitness complex, tidied up the showers and toilet rooms – we did the main capital work, with only minor internal work remaining. We have received a subsidy from the Ministry of Education and Science for these purposes. We have also submitted documents to the Ministry to provide the university with a subsidy for the renovation of the gym, but for now this work has been temporarily suspended. The fact is that we have an object for urgent repair – the roof of building “L”, which was torn off during the hurricane. As a matter of priority, we are processing the request to repair this roof, after which we will return to the gym renovation,” said Sergei Bocharov.

The Rector also highlighted the university’s capital repair program until 2030, which covers all facilities. It is planned to reconstruct and update the university buildings. Large expenses are associated with repairing roofs, walls, replacing windows, etc. This work requires financial support from the Ministry of Education and Science. As part of this program, the university has already renovated two of its dormitories.

Alexander Agishev, Director of the Altai State University ski base, associate professor of the Department of Physical Education, said that today the ski base has about 300 pairs of skis at its disposal, which is enough to conduct classes. Starting from November and until April, first and second year students practice at the ski base. In addition, university employees can use skis completely free of charge.

Rector Sergei Bocharov inspected the visit log of the ski base by university employees. It confirmed that on weekends 20-25 active recreation enthusiasts come here.
