The scientific archeological school created by Professor Yuri Kiryushin on the basis of Altai State University is known not only in Russia but also abroad. A considerable number of candidates and doctors of sciences have been trained within its framework for many years. The university has a modern scientific and technical base, the necessary expeditionary equipment, a large library and significant funds of archaeological sources. Employees and postgraduate students take an active part in execution of financed research grants, programs and projects, including those with leading foreign organizations. The program of training is directed on reception of professional knowledge, abilities and the skills necessary for carrying out scientific work in the field of archaeology.

What training you get

The primary goal of graduate study is to prepare for the Ph.D. thesis in the specialty 5.6.3 Archaeology (Historical Sciences). This also requires passing three PhD examinations in the following disciplines: "History and Philosophy of Science," "Foreign Language (English or German)," and "Archaeology." During training graduate students have the opportunity to receive training in the research centers of the country and abroad, to participate in expeditions and to conduct their own fieldwork, as well as to present their results in reports at conferences at various levels and participation in projects. Special attention will be given to the preparation and publication of scientific articles at the modern level.

Career opportunities and graduates

After finishing graduate school there is an opportunity to defend a doctoral thesis in the Dissertation Council 24.2.269.01 for thesis defense, created on the basis of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "Altai State University" (Chairman of the Council - A.A. Tishkin, Doctor of History, Professor).

While still studying, a graduate student has ample opportunities to participate in research projects of the Department of Archaeology, Ethnography and Museology as well as the Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Study of Archaeology of Western Siberia and Altai. In connection with the opening in 2022 of enrollment in the undergraduate program "Archaeology" (profile - Innovative Archaeology), there is a chance to gain a foothold in IIMO Altai State University as a teacher. Performance of economic contracts will allow to provide the employee with new archaeological material for further preparation of the doctoral dissertation, and also to receive a good salary. With a Ph.D. in history, there is the prospect of working as the head of not only the scientific unit in academic institutions or universities, but also to hold higher positions. The level of such training provides job placement and career advancement in state cultural heritage protection agencies, museums and museum-type institutions, higher education, cultural and social policy administrative organizations.
