At Altai State University, more than 3 thousand young scientists, including about 2.5 thousand students, 487 graduate students and 176 research assistants, can apply for various forms of support.

Thus, students involved in science can take advantage of travel grants, become participants in acceleration programs, and the “Step into Science” methodological school. In addition, the university provides support for startup projects and holds expert sessions on technological entrepreneurship with the involvement of representatives of the real sector of the economy.

Those entering graduate school can apply for a rector's grant, which allows them to significantly reduce the cost of training. An important component of the program to support young research assistants is the opportunity to reimburse part of the costs associated with defending a dissertation: two trips to the dissertation council, printing of an abstract and one monograph.

Research and teaching staff along with graduate students can claim payments upon submission of a candidate's dissertation to the dissertation council (75 thousand rubles), upon receipt of a candidate of sciences diploma (25 thousand rubles), and also compensate for part of the expenses, such as stated above.

Also, young scientists have the opportunity to gain additional competencies through participation in strategic sessions in areas of scientific development of the university, conferences, and acceleration programs.

There are a number of competitions for young research assistants.

A competition of intra-university grants for scientists who conduct research within the priority areas of the university’s activities. Grants are awarded to conduct research that will allow obtaining scientific and technical results and creating technologies that will become the basis for the innovative development of the domestic market for products and services and Russia’s stable position in the foreign market.

These grants are specifically designated for implementing scientific and technical programs and projects, conducting fundamental scientific research and exploratory scientific research from the moment of summing up the results of the competition for a period until December 31 of the current year, with the maximum duration of one calendar year. Grant funds are allocated for personal expenses of the project manager and team members involved in the research. Each team member can receive funding of up to 150 thousand rubles to support their contribution to the project.

Competition for young research assistants based on the “Case” system. Participants of the competition submit an application detailing their professional achievements in accordance with the target indicators of the modules “Educational and Methodological Work” and “Research Activities” in the personal profile of the automated information system “Case”.

The “My First Business Project” competition targets scientists carrying out their scientific project for the first time under a business agreement with a representative of the real sector of the economy. The result of the project implementation should be a business agreement paid for by the customer to carry out research and development work, the funds should go to the account of Altai State University. The minimum value of the business contract for research and development should be 50 thousand rubles, focusing on creating products, technologies, and services aligned with the University’s scientific and innovation policy of the Priority 2030 development program. Winners of the competition receive a lump sum payment of 20% of the business agreement amount.

Another important direction in the fostering young scientific talents at Altai State University is a competition for schools of advanced research and development, highlighted by Alexander Dunets, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Development.

“The most important thing for a young scientist is the team, their classmates, and scientific supervisors. Therefore, we consider it important to support scientific schools. A draft regulation on the competition for schools of advanced research and development has been developed, with the evaluation criteria being the academic degrees of the participants, the number of publications, experience in project, grant, and contract activities, scientific awards, honorary and academic titles. Funding will be allocated to purchase equipment and other property necessary to conduct scientific research, purchase materials and components for scientific research, pay for business trips and scientific internships, and, if necessary, third-party research services. In the future, young scientists will be able to use this component.”
