On Thursday, March 14, in the Altai State University, the opening of the V Student Congress of the Peoples of Central Asia will take place at Altai State University. The event is timed to coincide with the national holiday of the Persian and Turkic peoples of Nowruz.

The event has already become traditional for ASU. This year it will bring together youth leaders of all universities of Altai Krai representing Kazakh, Tajik, Kyrgyz, Tatar, Uzbek and Russian cultures within the walls of the university. Representatives of China and India will also join the celebration of Nowruz.

This year the program of the anniversary congress has undergone some changes. So, for example, the theatrical action of the first day of the youth forum will begin in the Univer-City student complex located on ul. Chervonnaya, 5, where foreign students of ASU will begin the ceremony of preparing the main character of the holiday – the spring girl.

“The main character of Nowruz will be dressed up and decorated with flowers. The students will be singing songs of praise to her, reciting poems and odes, in a word, preparing spring for awakening. Then, a bright flash mob will be held in front of the dormitory buildings, dedicated to the meeting of spring, after which the spring girl will get into a decorated limousine and taken to the main building of the university, accompanied by a motorcade, where the opening of the V Student Congress of the Peoples of Central Asia will take place,” Head of the Department for Educational Work Liliya V. Grishakova said. “By the way, this year we had a serious audition for the role of the spring girl, during which Tamiriz Mirsaburova, a 1st year student of the International Institute of Economics, Management and Informational Systems of ASU, was chosen from seven finalists.”

Within the framework of the congress program, the Inter-Ethnic Youth Sports Festival, the Olympiad on the History of the Central Asian Countries, a photo contest, an exhibition of tangible cultural objects of the Central Asian countries will also be held.

The final event of the congress will be the Festival of National Cultures of the Peoples of Central Asia. It will be held on March 15 at 4 pm in the concert hall of ASU. Before it starts, the guests will have an opportunity to taste national dishes. The entry to these events will be free of charge.

Ten years ago, Nowruz International Day was included on the list of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind by UNESCO. Persian and Turkic peoples celebrated the onset of astronomical spring, the day of the vernal equinox, long before the new era. In 2019, Nowruz will be celebrated on March 21.
