ASU UNICO TEMPUS Language Centre

ASU UNICO TEMPUS Language Centre has been established within the Tempus project realization 544283-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-ES-TEMPUS-JPHES “Lifelong Language Learning University Centre Network for New Career Opportunities and Personal Development (UNICO)”.

The UNICO project aim is to contribute to the modernization of higher education in Partner Countries by converging with EU developments in the field of education in general and LLL in particular, deriving from the ‘Europe 2020’ strategy, the strategic framework for EU cooperation in education (‘ET 2020’) and the Bologna process. The specific objective is to build up a network of university LLL language centres for wider population’s new career opportunities and personal development (UNICO: universities-careers-opportunities) with key partners in three countries involved with the purpose of international cooperation and for a permanent modernization process not only at the HEIs, but with the view of the changes in society at large in terms of new opportunities in the labour market, in the academic and scientific world, etc.

Our proposal is a call for action in the remote, widely distributed geographically districts with rigorous climate in terms of the dialogue between the HEIs, authorities and other stakeholders, and EU partners about support of language learners, including circles at risk of social exclusion such as the unemployed and physically challenged people, as well as education professionals, sports and culture institutions, businesses, authorities, etc. We take into account that language knowledge will pave the path to better careers of individuals and help them to live, study and work abroad as well as give additional stimulating opportunities at home. We consider UNICO centres as Centres for Excellence aimed at guaranteeing excellent teaching practice. Each UNICO centre will become embedded in regional social and economic fabric as well as in education and training systems and include:

  1. English language educational service;
  2. Technological support service;
  3. Resource centre service: learning materials + website and e-database support;
  4. Assessment and examination office service;
  5. Out-reach coordinators’ service;
  6. Employment consultancy service.
