7 April 2016 Faculty of Biology

ASU Faculty of Biology students and lecturers visited a real production center for seedlings growing – Altai Forestry Center for Selection and Seed-Production. Such excursions get the youth acquainted to modern enterprises, as well as serve for professional orientation purposes, as Altai Forestry Center for Selection and Seed-Production is a center, where Faculty of Biology graduates work and will continue working in future.

The excursion was conducted by director of Altai Forestry Center for Selection and Seed-Production Viktor Bubenshikov, who managed to share a lot of new and interesting knowledge with the students.

Altai Forestry Center for Selection and Seed-Production is a complex center, where pine seedlings are grown for the purpose of forest restoration and production of seed material, which is kept in special cryo chambers for a long time.

Activities of this production complex can help to preserve the unique pine forests. The seed selection process undergoes all the necessary stages – from seed calibration to high-quality viable seeds selection. The process of high-quality pine seeds production begins with pinecones gathering. Then the cones are processed and the seeds are obtained. Some of the seeds are used for making the seed stock of Altai Krai, and others are planted in forest gardens and greenhouses of Altai Forestry Center for Selection and Seed-Production. The received fresh seedlings are sent all over the region and even beyond.
