Virologist from the USA will deliver the lecture at ASU

Today, 18 April, the spring session of Youth Science Days has started at Altai State University.

The scientific forum started with Young Author School opening. The school is supervised by head of the Center for Research of Modern Eastern Countries’ General Problems under Oriental Studies Institute of Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations (Moscow), Candidate of History Sergey A. Panarin. Besides that, there are around 50 different events planned – conferences, round tables, masterclasses, intellectual games and so on.

This year is the first one in the framework of the forum to host the open lectures in foreign languages by the leading international scientists. They will start on 20 April with the reports by research officers from the Institute of Geosciences under the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (Halle, Germany). Thus, Doctor Robert Kolander will touch upon physical and geographical processes in geosystems; Doctor Gerd Schmidt will tell the audience about ground observations of environment condition, information gathering and sampling; Doctor Michael Schmidt will speak on environment monitoring and data interpretation.

On 21 April the lecture dedicated to new trends in fighting viral infections by professor of Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia, the USA) George R. Painter.

“Professor Painter will make a report concerning the breakthrough results in searching for RNA polymerase inhibitors that are the key enzymes for RNA-containing dangerous viruses such as Ebola, HIV, tick-borne encephalitis, Zika virus and so on. Particularly, he will speak on the latest developments of antiviral drugs, which Emory University scientists are currently working on, and their progress,” explaines assistant professor of the Department of Organic Chemistry of Altai State University, head of Immunochemical Laboratory of the Department of Bioengineering of Vector Scientific Center, Candidate of Biology Dmitry N. Sherbakov. “Emory University Laboratory synthesizes nucleoside analogues that affect RNA-dependent polymerase. The American scientists collaborate with many world’s intitutes and laboratories in this area.”

It is to be reminded, that the ceremonial opening of the forum has been held today. Moreover, this is also the day of Barnaul schoolers’ conference.
