ASU historians made a trip to Shenyang

At the beginning of the week Dean of the Faculty of History E.V. Demchik and Assistant Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies V.V. Tumaykina visited the capital of the former Celestial Empire at the instruction of ASU Rector S.V. Zemlyukov. They participated in the 3rd Meeting of Executive Committee for the Association of the Universities of Far East and Siberia of the Russian Federation and North-Eastern Regions of China, which took place on 24–25 October 2016 in Shenyang that used to be a capital of China in the 17th century. Representatives of Russian and Chinese universities discussed the issues of further development of Russian-Chinese collaboration in education, science and culture. Delegates from Heilongjiang University, Changchun University, Liaoning University, Heihe University, North-Eastern Agricultural University and Inner Mongolia Agricultural University took part in the meeting on the Chinese side. The Russian side was represented by delegates from Pacific National University, Altai State University, Blagoveshchensk State Pedagogical University, Amur State University and Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service.

E.V. Demchik covered the experience of Altai State University in networking cooperation between the universities of Russia and China and the urgent problems concerning legal and regulatory framework of networking educational programs. Consul-General of the Russian Federation in Shenyang S.Yu. Paltov, who attended the meeting, reassured the audience that he would facilitate a solution to the problem at international scale.

The meeting participants encountered the technical problems with simultaneous translation, which V.V. Tumaykina managed to overcome. She easily translated Russian speakers’ reports into Chinese and impressed Chinese rectors with her mastery of the Chinese language. ASU delegation, Rector of Liaoning University Pan Yishang and Vice-Rector Xu Ping negotiated signing a cooperation agreement between the universities. Vice-Rector of Heilongjiang University referred the text of cooperation agreement to ASU Rector S.V. Zemlyukov for approval. The meeting resulted in adopting a resolution containing specific measures for development of international collaboration between universities is such areas as education, science, culture, sport and youth policy. The event is considered to be an important step towards development of further relations between ASU and the universities of China.
