Book-selling websites of Czech Republic and Great Britain, different entomological websites have posted information about the issue of the book titled “The Butterflies of Kazakhstan” by Vadim V. Tshikolovets, Oleg E. Kosterin, Pavel Yu. Gorbunov and Roman V. Yakovlev.

This landmark publication is an outcome of the seven-year work on the book, which has been issued in excellent quality in Czech Republic. The book contains 448 pages and 64 colour plates. It comprises all the available information about the butterflies of Kazakhstan. The scientists have processed both state and private collections that include significant materials on Kazakhstan. More than 4,500 butterfly species are depicted on colour plates.

One of the co-authors of the book is ASU entomologist, Doctor of Biology, Professor Roman V. Yakovlev. He was responsible for research of the eastern part of Kazakhstan and made a number of expeditions to that area. The book was prepared together with other entomologists from Novosibirsk, Ekaterinburg and Kiev. The authors have not seen the result of their work yet. Their copies of the book have been sent from Czech Republic and are currently on their way to their owners.

“We have already worked on major joint projects related to the butterflies of Altai, Sayan Mountains, Tuva and Mongolia, which were published in Czech Republic in 2009. We have been working on the book about Kazakhstan for about 7 years. The interest in Central Asia is great in Europe. To be honest, it was pleasing to see my books in the libraries of Berlin, Tokyo and Paris. And here is another work to be used by hundreds of world’s entomologists,” noted Roman V. Yakovlev.
