In February 2017 Assistant Professor of the Department of Zoology and Physiology Elena V. Guskova had her article “Leaf-beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) of the Mongolian Altai: subfamilies Donaciinae, Criocerinae, Eumolpinae and Galerucinae” published in Entomologist's Gazette, a prestigious British journal.

The article contains a report on the results of work in Mongolia during the period of 2007 to 2009. Despite the fact that Mongolia was thoroughly studied by Soviet and Mongolian research teams, a number of regions (especially Western Mongolia) still remain unexplored.

Scientists of Altai State University have been actively working on the territory of Mongolian Altai for the last decade. Elena V. Guskova visited unique localities in Bayan-Ölgii, Khovd and Govi-Altai Provinces and presented description of some groups belonging to Chrysomelidea family. She managed to discover three species that are new for Mongolian fauna and specify the information on inhabitation areas of other species.

“In the course of research on biodiversity of the Great Altai we have made a lot of discoveries and obtained a great amount of new data. Moreover, our project is now supported by the government, which will help us expand the knowledge of Altai fauna,” noted scientific supervisor of the research team, Doctor of Biology, Professor Roman V. Yakovlev.
