World Poetry Day at Altai State University

At the end of March Altai State University hosted an event dedicated to the World Poetry Day. The holiday took place at ASU Scientific Library. The participants included Russian and foreign students, lecturers and employees of Altai State University.

Students from China, India, Iran and other countries recited poems in the Russian language. The audience listened to the literary works by Russian classical and Soviet poets, translations of Chinese poems and even children’s poetry. A lot of students chose their favourite poems and tried reciting them expressively. Students were supported by their lecturers, who also prepared their presentations.

It is to be mentioned that ASU Scientific Library organized a topic-related exhibition entitled “Masterpieces of the World Poetry”.

World Poetry Day is celebrated on 21 March and was declared by UNESCO in 1999. Its purpose is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world and to give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements.
