Faculty of Geography student completed training in Germany

Natalia Mameshina, 1st year master’s degree student of the Faculty of Geography majoring in International Tourism, underwent training in Germany at the Institute of Regional Geography (Leipzig) in February 2017. She shared her impressions:

“When I participated in Environmental Management and Monitoring additional education program that is realized by Altai State University and financially supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), I received an opportunity to enter a competition for scholarships of Leibniz Institute of Regional Geography.

My trip was mainly aimed at establishing scientific cooperation and searching for competent experts in the area of my academic interest.

On arrival all the students were attached to supervisors. To my surprise, I was the only foreign student among 15 participants. Two students and I were allocated to the Department of Mapping and Visual Communication for the purpose of working on Germany National Atlas project. As an outcome of our work we were supposed to execute a project of maps for Germany National Atlas. I also decided to do research on partner relations between Germany and Russia in the framework of the training course. The result of my work was a basis for the map of twin-cities of Russia and Germany.

It is to be noted that during the training we got acquainted with numerous projects by Institute employees, went on excursions and learned about social and economic peculiarities of Leipzig and different social projects realized here.

At the end of the training course we received the certificates of participation. All the objectives were achieved. For me personally, the trip has become an essential stage of my life. I acquired vast experience, obtained new knowledge and received a lot of positive emotions.”
