Geographers of Altai State University participated in a meeting in the Republic of Korea

The 12th Meeting of Subcommittee of Economy and Humanities Exchange under the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments (NEAR), which Altai Krai is a member of, was held on 16–18 August 2017 in Andong, the capital of North Gyeongsang Province in South Korea.

The meeting of NEAR Subcommittee was dedicated to traditional culture, industrialization and internationalization of human resources and strategy for creation of cooperation system in humanitarian area.

Altai Krai was presented by Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Geography at Altai State University, scientific expert at International Coordination Board “Our Common Home – Altai” Irina N. Rotanova. Her speech was dedicated to the role of Coordination Board in internationalization of Great Altai.

The event was attended by representatives of 20 regional administrations from 5 countries (the Republic of Korea, China, Mongolia, Russia, and Japan). There were 80 participants, including NEAR Secretary-General Hong Jong-kyoung, Deputy Governor for Economy of North Gyeongsang Province Woo Byung Yoon, members of regional delegations, specialists, and representatives of business and academic communities.

Key lecture entitled “Industrialization and Globalization of Human Resources and Traditional Cultures” was delivered by Professor Jung Won-gil from Daegu Haany University. Professor Kim Si-Beom from Andong National University and Professor Shim Sang-min from Sungshin Women’s University followed with special reports on cultural resources and heritage in Asia. Speakers also touched upon experience of member regions of NEAR in the area of economic and humanitarian cooperation and development of cultural policy in the countries of North-East Asia.

International events held by NEAR are aimed at organization of practice-oriented dialogue on the most relevant issues and directions in economy and culture. The organization encourages enhancement of international and trans-regional cooperation between the countries of North-East Asia.
