This year REC "The Greater Altai" of Altai State University is planning four summer international expeditions - three archaeological and one ethnographic. Two of them will be held on the territory of the Russian Federation (Altai Krai and the Republic of Altai), and the other two on the territory of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Deputy Chairman of the Scientific and Educational Center, Doctor of Historical Sciences Sergey Grushin spoke about them on the air of TV "Katun 24".

Scientific expeditions are one of the directions of a large project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, which is aimed at studying Turkic history, archeology, and ethnography in the Central Asian region. REC “The Greater Altai” of Altaic and Turkic Studies of Altai State University is the main executor of this project. The main task is to consolidate scientific and educational forces in the countries of Central Asia, to attract scientists from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan to study Turkic history, ethnography and features of Turkic-Slavic interaction in the Central Asian region.

Professor Grushin explained that during the expeditions the objects of archaeological heritage connected with the early Turkic history in the territory of Central Asia will be recorded and systematized. The monuments of the adjacent territories of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will be monitored in order to understand the process of spreading the Turkic component to these regions.

The results will be used to compile a catalog and cartography of monuments of Turkic culture, to replenish the collection of the virtual museum of Turkic culture.
